Why must they be printed on Quality Carbonless (NCR) Papers

The days of manually placing messy carbon sheets between each and every copy is over. Carbonless copy or No Carbon Required (NCR) paper consists of sheets of paper that are coated with micro-encapsulated reactive ink. The back of the first sheet is coated with micro-encapsulated ink that is referred to as a Coated Back or CB sheet. The lowermost sheet is coated on the top surface with a clay that instantly reacts on applying pressure with the ink to form a permanent mark referred to as Coated Front, CF. Any intermediate sheets are coated with clay on top and the reactive ink on the bottom which is referred to as Coated Front and Back, CFB.

When the sheets are written on with pressure (e.g., ball-point pen) or with impact (e.g., typewriter, dot-matrix printer), the pressure causes the micro-capsules to burst and spill out their ink. Since the capsules are so small, the print that is obtained is very precise. Therefore a good quality NCR paper will reproduce legible copies of the original.

Binding your docket book or pad using the right type of cover.

Both Soft and Hard cover Docket books are stapled and taped at the top or left edge of the book using a thick backing board. We offer a choice of binding tape colours (Blue/Red/Black/Green) for easy identification. Soft cover docket books and pads are bound and wrapped with a Manilla cover. Hard cover docket books are bound using a stiff board that is imprinted with a crocodile pattern and is available in 4 colours.

Numbering and perforating the pages.

When sequential numbering is required an area of blank space needs to be kept in your document for the numbering. The minimum blank space for sequential numbering is approx. 35mm(L) x15mm(H). We prefer to have the numbering position at the top right of the page. The minimum number of digits for numbering is 4 Eg. 0001 and the maximum number of digits will be 7 Eg. 0005897. Sequential numbering is printed in red ink.

docket books perforation

Perforation is where a set of pinholes are punched in regular alignment to help easy separation of paper at a defined point. Perforation is selectively used for pages when a copy needs to be separated from the book after the information is recorded. Any page commonly known as a book copy will not be perforated. Perforation is mostly used in parallel with the binding edge of the docket book leaving a margin of approx. 20mm between the perforation line of the page and the paper edge.

Do I need a wrap around writing plate for my docket book/pad?

This is a must have for all docket books to avoid any hand written impressions being transferred to subsequent sets. Each of our docket books include a convenient writing plate that is attached to the bottom of the book and can be slipped into a set of sheets at any point in the book. They also act as an ideal partition to indicate the next available set of sheets that is to be written on. For example, the writing plate is placed behind the third copy of each set in a triplicate docket book. We attach a writing plate for both hard cover and soft cover books. We can also attach them to pads.

The use of individual Fan-A-part sheet sets.

By now you will be aware that each sheet of a carbonless form is chemically treated to allow the image to transfer from one sheet to the next. For example on a 3 part student enrolment form when the original is filled out, it allows the contents to be transferred instantly from the top of the first page to the top of the last page as the student writes on it. A special magic glue is applied to any preferred edge of the pad to bond the sets of sheets in a form together. This avoids any movement of sheets in a set during writing or handling. Fan-Apart glue is used on a block of carbonless forms that allows carbonless sheets to be fastened together then fanned into forms that self-separate into sets when ripped from a block or pad of forms.
