FAQ Business Cards

What is the popular Business Card Size in Australia?

The most popular business card size used in Australia is 90 x 55mm. The size is little larger on the long edge when compared to a plastic credit card (Size 85.5 x 54mm). Many printing companies now offer cards at 90 x 54mm with the purpose to reduce the off-cut and maintain an efficient board yield. This is a very negligible 1mm reduction in the short edge of the card. We prefer to maintain our standard card size at 90 x 54mm, while also accommodating any special sizes for an additional fee.

Can I get my card printed on both sides?

Majority of our printing Jobs are planned and printed both sides. Printing just one side will not give you a sizable cost advantage. We recommend that you should make the best use of both surfaces on your card, by creating an effective design that contributes towards the purpose of having a business card.

How many business cards should I get printed?

Our planned printing batch size is usually 1000 and 500 cards. The cost difference between these quantities is approximately $10 to $20, which is negligible when compared to the set up time for each job. We therefore prefer to print 1000 cards, making it both advantages to our customer and us. We also accept order quantities bellow 250 cards, which will be printed digitally.

How do I select the thickness of my Business Card?

Holding a thicker business card can always give you a feel of substance and prestige. With this purpose in mind we prefer to use 400gsm stock for our prestige range of cards. This is a smooth and hi-white stock that has always been a preferred choice for our clients during our years of trading. In fact a 400gsm card is almost double the weight offered by many of the ‘budget printing’ companies.

We can also offer the same in 300gsm stock thickness. Again, this type of board thickness has its uses, as it is fairly economical when used by people who need to bulk-buy their cards for constant give away, e.g. taxi drivers, hairdressers, tradesmen etc. This stock used with a Gloss or Matt Cello glaze topping can add extra substance and glamour to your card.

GSM (gsm) refers to the substance weight (Thickness) of paper, relating to an area of paper that remains constant, irrespective of sheet size, expressed as grams per square metre.

Should my cards be Cello-glazed?

Cello glazing is a process where a Gloss or Matt film coating is heat bonded to the printed surface of your business card. Cello-glaze has a smooth and luxurious feel and also enhances the visual impact of your design while increasing the durability of your cards. If in case you need a writable surface with cello-glace, a Matt cello-glaze coating is the option to select. In contrast a gloss coating will give you a reflective sheen to the surface of your card.

FAQ Letterheads & With Comp Slips

What makes a good letterhead?

A professionally designed letterhead is essential for an impressive corporate presentation that will contribute towards a uniform written communication. With your experience you will understand that before you read the message you unconsciously get a feel of the paper and observe the layout. Therefore the first impression a letterhead makes can be crucial to success.

Do you supply Letterheads in Laser Printer friendly paper?

The main thing to consider with a letterhead is that the paper you choose is compatible with your laser printer. We use high-quality dust free white offset 100gsm bond paper for our letterheads and Compliment Slip printing. This paper is suitable for any laser printer. The paper surface is best for copying, handwriting and stamping. We also offer thickness of 80gsm and 115gsm.

If you plan to use an Ink or bubble Jet printer, you should do a few tests with an uncoated stock to see how it performs.

Can a Letterhead be printed both sides?

A letterhead is best printed full colour both sides using quality bond paper that is 100gsm and above in thickness. In the age of electronic communication letterheads are used in the printing of invoices in colour with a single colour print of the terms and conditions on the reverse. The result is a uniform full colour invoice that is printed and gives you savings on colour ink tonner expiry and purchases.

If there is a need for the continuation of pages in your letters or reports, you may consider designing these continuation sheets on your chosen paper so that your followers match your letterheads.

If your item were bigger than this they will classify it as a small or large parcel. Letters should not contain stiff objects such as bottle tops, pens, items enclosed in a hard case, and so on. (A) What is a gusset and how many sheets can they hold

Rather than a single fold, a gusset creates two creased folds on the folder spine and pocket. The document holding capacity depends on the gusset width you select. When a 5mm gusset is applied to a presentation folder, the pocket size is increased allowing more documents to be inserted. There will be no additional cost associated with choosing a template with a gusset/s.

The following capacities have been approximately calculated using standard A4 Laser Bond sheets of 100gsm Thickness. Sheet holding capacity for Executive Folders (Single Pocket) & Prestige Folders (Double Pockets)

Gusset/Spine
Thickness
100gsm Laser
Sheets/Pocket
1mmApprox 8-10 Sheets
5mmApprox 35-40 Sheets
10mmApprox 75-80 Sheets
15mmApprox 100-125 Sheets

(B) What are Interlocking Pockets

Each template has its own style of pocket that can be easily interlocked by the user. The pocket/s hold your documents in place, while the capacity of the pocket will depend on the gusset of the template selected. One must avoid placing text and graphics in areas that overlap when a folder is formed.

(C) Business Card holding slits

The orientation of the business card slit to be Landscape or Portrait will depend on the style of folder template selected. All our folders include business card slits that can hold one 90 x 54mm or slightly smaller business card.

Using your own knife or designing a custom template.

There are so many options available for a custom folder that our team of experts can help you create ideas you've probably never even thought! We can design a new template for a die/knife line and manufacture a custom knife just for you. If you already own a knife manufactured by you previous printer we can also design your folder to suite that knife.
